Bergen to everywhere: remote by design

Bergen is not a tech hub. It rains two hundred days a year, the airport is small, and nobody moves here for the startup scene. That turned out to be a feature: a studio that cannot rely on being in the room learns to work in ways that do not need the room.

Remote-first with clients means the artefacts do the travelling. Written briefs instead of kickoff theatre. Recorded walkthroughs instead of screen-share meetings that die with the calendar invite. A URL instead of a status update — the work itself, running, is the report.

Decisions live in writing. Not because we love documents, but because a decision that exists only in a call has a half-life of about a week. When the client's team changes, or ours rotates a specialist in, the written trail is what keeps the project from restarting itself.

The seams hold because they were designed, not patched. Overlapping hours are agreed up front, demos land on a rhythm, and nothing important is communicated only once. Distance punishes improvisation and rewards structure — which, it turns out, is exactly the discipline that makes software better anyway.
